The institution adopted its own emblem with the motto, 'Asato Maa Sadgamaya, Tamaso Maa Jyotirgamaya' representing its aims and objectives significantly and adequately. 'Asato Maa Sadgamaya' highlights an attempt through education to eradicate ignorance, superstitions, and illiteracy by spreading the light of knowledge among the people of disadvantaged sections of South Kanpur. The emblem comprises of the rising sun which enlightens the mind and brings life, vitality to all those who have been deprived of it so far. The rising sun conveys that the college shall tender education that will lead people from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge and from the unknown to the known to achieve its objectives. The motto suits well the 'emblem' and both together underline the high and noble principles with which the college shall attempt to work in the field of education. As such, these together frame the philosophy and guiding force as to how the college should progress and prosper.
The primary objective in the year 1969 - the year of establishment was to open up the doors of higher education in the southern region with a view to provide the very access to higher education for the rural girls to whom it was a distant dream, enabling them to develop as intellectually alive, socially responsible citizen ever ready for continous personal and professional growth - to inculcate social, spiritual and moral values. The institution has definetly achieved this objective by having started its mission with offering graduation in arts and teacher education faculties within its progression in the first decade. This is evident from the fact that almost every family in Kidwai Nagar from what ever strata has its daughters graduated from the college. Realising the importance of computers within its inevitable entry in the sphere of human activities, the college started the education in 200/- and enterprizing endeavour towards offering computers education at such a remote place, offering certificate course, advanced diploma in computer software recognised by CSJM University, Kanpur.Then in the year 2003 - 2004, we started degree courses in vocational subjects such as Sales Management, Office Management & Secretarial practices etc. which are quite significant in developing professional skills among the students. Other Vocational courses like Mass Communication, Travel and Tourism have been started in the college since 2007. These Vocational courses are some of the value addition courses which are met to diversify then conventional degree programme by making it job and community oriented. The institution follows the annual system of examination and the formal degree programme of B.A. courses is made interdisciplinary in nature with many optional subjects for Undergraduate, Post graduate and B.Ed. students. These value added courses are to a great extent career oriented as they enable students in securing good jobs.Under graduate courses run under SFC has widen career orientation as our students have been placed in Software Companies and other Industries of Kanpur. In the present year many students of Computer Application, Advertisement, Sales Promotion, Office Management and Mass Communication were re created by renowned companies as Bajaj Allianze, Relaince and Infosys in Job Fair organised by the college. Some of our students have qualified for Civil Services and State Services. Some have got jobs in Railways, Banks, Telephone Departments etc. Many P.G. students and scholars have been selected as Principals as well as Lecturers in various colleges moreover, many new job oriented undergraduate courses such as Fashion Designing, Journalism, Functional english etc. have been proposed by the college for approval of U.G.C./University and are likely to be started in the next session. These courses have tremendous self employment prospects. The core courses in environmental studies with its model presentation, exhibitions on environmental pollution and AIDS programmes have contributed immensely in fostering community orientation among students. The courses like Drawing, Sketching, B.Ed, Home Science, Psychology, Computer Application amply focuses on practical and work experience.
Cut off percentage for admission at the entry level in the institution is 45% for the general category students and 40% for the students of SC and ST as per U.P. state University Act, 1973.
